Ingredients

  • Idli rice - 1cup
  • Urad dal - 1/4 cup
  • Pottukadalai - 2 tbsp
  • Ajwain - 1 tbsp
  • Peppercorns -1 tsp
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tbsp
  • Butter -1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for deep frying
  • Water as required

Preparation Method

  • In a bowl add idli rice, wash 2 to 3 times, then soak it for 3 hours
  • Then grind to fine thick batter.
  • Roast urad dal until light brown, let it cool.
  • in a mixie jar add pottukadalai, roasted urad dal, peppercorns finely grind.
  • In a bowl add ground pottukadalai, urad dal mixture, Peppercorns, Sesame, Ajwain , oil, butter, salt, cumin seeds, mix well
  • Add water, make soft dough
  • Place handful dough in a murukku kuzhal, squeeze over the oil, deep fry till crisp on medium hot oil.
  • You can make shape over ladle or buttersheet also
  • Flip over & fry another side.
  • Once it ready or the oil sound disappears then take it out & drain on absorbent paper.
  • Leave it for room temperature [Apr. 2 min]. Then store in an airtight container
