Vendakkai kara kuzhambu By

Main ingredients

  • Vendakkai – ¼ kilo [cut in to 1 inch]
  • Onion – 1 big [sliced]
  • Red chilli -1
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds – ½ tbsp
  • Bengal gram– ½ tbsp
  • Urad dal– ½ tbsp
  • Curry leaves – 1 spring
  • Red chilli powder – ½ tbsp
  • Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil – 3 tbsp
  • Water As needed

ingredients for roasting and grinding

  • Sambar onion – 6 to 7
  • Red chilli- 2
  • Tamarind – 1 inch
  • Tomato – 2
  • Coconut – 2 tbsp [grated]
  • Coriander seeds – 1 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tbsp
  • Fennel seeds – ½ tbsp
  • Bengal gram– 1 tbsp
  • Urad dal– 1 tbsp
  • Garlic – 1 clove
  • * Heat pan with oil roast all ingredients then grind to fine paste

Method

  • In a thick pan fry Okra for 10 min (with pinch of salt) in a low flame and keep aside.
  • Heat pan with oil then add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, Bengal gram and urad dal.
  • Add onion & sauté well then add red chilli, curry leaves.
  • Add cooked okra then add red chilli powder, turmeric powder mix well.
  • Add ground paste, add water mix well. Cover it and cook. Once raw smell out and boiled. Turn off heat.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves serve hot with rice, idly, dosa.
