Vendaikai Mandi (Green okra Gravy)

Type Lunch Gravy

Ingredients

Green okra -(20)
Garlic flakes -10
Onion -1
Green Chillies -6
Tamarind- 25gm
Mustard seeds -1/2 tsp
Cup raw rice water -1/2
Cup tamarind paste -1/2
Water -1/2 cup
Salt to taste
Oil for frying
Green Curry leaves

Preparation

  • Soak the tamarind.
  • Wash the okras and cut it into small pieces.
  • Chop the onions and garlic.
  • Slit green Chillies.
  • Heat the oil and fry the okra pieces.
  • Keep it aside.
  • Heat the oil again and add mustard seeds and Curry leaves.
  • Mix chopped onions, garlic and green chilies.
  • Add fried okras and tamarind extract.
  • Mix it well.
  • Then add raw rice water then add salt.
  • Boil till the mixture until it becomes thick
  • Serve with rice.

Note

Instead of Okra potato can be used.

Tips

Pappadam is the best side dish.
