Ingredients

  • Bengal gram / channa dal – 1 cup
  • Water - 2 ½ to 3 cups
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Dry mango powder – ½ tbsp
  • Red chilli powder – 1 tsp
  • Garam masala powder – 1 tsp
  • Coriander leaves – 1 spring [chopped]
  • Salt to taste
  • Sugar – ¼ tsp
  • Oil – 2 tbsp

For seasoning

  • Cumin seeds – 1 tbsp
  • Curry leaves – 1 spring
  • Green chilli – 1 [slit]
  • Onion – 1 [finely chopped]

Method

  • Wash & soak Bengal gram for 1 ½ hours. In a pressure cooker add 3 cup water, turmeric powder, cover it & cook for 4 whistles. Or boil in a pan for 30 min.
  • Heat pan add boiled Bengal gram, salt, red chilli powder, dry mango powder & garam masala powder mix well & let it boil.
  • For seasoning: - Heat another pan add oil, cumin seeds, onion sauté till golden brown. Then add green chilli & curry leaves sauté.
  • Add seasoned ingredients to Bengal gram mixture mix well. Then add sugar & cut off heat.
    Sprinkle coriander leaves & serve hot with rice.
