Whole Green Gram Sprouts Puttu By

Ingredients

  • Whole green gram sprouts* [moong dal] - 1 cup
  • Grated coconut - 1 cup
  • Jaggery - ½ cup
  • Banana - 1
  • Green cardamom powder - ½ tbsp
  • Ghee - 2 tbsp [optional]

*Soak green gram over night, then drain the water and keep it for another 8 hours in hotbox for sprouts

Preparation

  • Coarsely grind green gram sprouts without water and transferred to a bowl then add grated coconut, grated jaggery and green cardamom powder mix well.
  • In a Puttu Kutti (Puttu making vessel) loosely fill the mixture and steam it for 5 min. Unmold puttu once done
  • Sprinkle ghee and serve hot with banana

Note

  • Add salt instead of Jaggery then season it. This is Kara puttu can be taken with Kadla curry
