Ingredients

  • Rice – 1 cup
  • Carrot -1 [cut in to cubes]
  • Toor dal – ½ cup
  • Sambar onion - 6
  • Garlic – 2 cloves
  • Cumin seeds – ½ tbsp
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Oil - 2 tbsp

Seasoning ingredients

  • Mustard seeds – 1 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds – ½ tbsp
  • Peppercorns – 6 [optional]
  • Bengal gram – ½ tbsp
  • Urad dal – ½ tbsp
  • Dry red chilli - 2
  • Curry leaves – 1 spring
  • Salt to taste

Method

  • Wash toor dal and rice.
  • In a pressure cooker take rice with toor dal then add cumin seeds, garlic, sambar onion, carrot and turmeric powder. Then add 3 ½ cup of water and cook for 4 whistles.
  • Heat pan with oil add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, Bengal, gram, urad dal, dry red chilli and curry leaves.
  • Add seasoning ingredients to cooked rice and add salt mix well.
  • Serve hot with pickle and chutney
